Following the footsteps of other FLOGEN award recipients who have subsequently achieved further recognition, Dr. Masato Sagawa, was appointed on November 11, 2019 a Distinguished Invited University Professor at Tohoku University, Japan.

As written there this is only the second time that Tohoku University has appointed a Distinguished Invited University Professor since the programme, which invites the expertise of extremely distinguished scholars, began in 2015. The late Nobel Laureate Peter Grunberg was the first to
receive the title in May 2016.
