Dr. Florian Kongoli holds 3 degrees: a Bachelor of Science, a Master of Science/University of Montreal, Canada and a Doctor of Science Degree/Tohoku University, Japan. Since 1996 he is CEO of FLOGEN Technologies Inc.,(www.flogen.com) a Sustainable High Tech applied research institute
incorporated in Canada and USA that today have offices and representations in more than 15 Countries around the the world while carrying out high tech projects in more than 40 countries.
Since 2007 he is Chairman of FLOGEN STAR OUTREACH (www.flogen.org), a not-for-profit organization dedicated to (1) achieving sustainability through science and technology, (2) raising the profile of science and engineering in the society and (3) properly honoring scientists and engineers.
Since 2003 Dr Kongoli has been President of the Organizing Committee of the Sustainable Industrial Processing Summits (SIPS) held every year in several countries around the world with an average participation of 500 authors from academia, industry, government and the entrepreneurship world representing an average of 80 countries.
Dr Kongoli has about 25 years of rich scientific and applied technology experience through direct involvement in numerous invited engagements in all continents. He has managed, involved, or actively participated in about 200 projects, 40 types of reactors, 10 industries, in 45 countries and in 6 continents. Dr. Kongoli has published 113 books and more than 200 scientific articles. He has delivered in numerous countries around the world about 220 plenary, keynote and invited presentations as well as articles, technical reports and research presentations. He has served in many leadership positions in national and international organizations and in many Professional Award Councils such as the Industrial Achievement Award Committee of International Federation of Automatic Control. He is Editorial Board member of several International Journals.
He is an elected Honorary Member of the Lorraine Academy of Sciences and Elected Member of Euro Mediterranean Academy of Arts and Sciences. He was awarded in 2017 the title "The Environmental Tech CEO of the year 2017" by CEO-Monthly UK magazine. He was awarded Certificate of Appreciation in recognition of his contribution toward sustainable development through FLOGEN Sustainability Framework by Tomas Bata University in Zlin (Czech Republic)/Faculty of Applied Informatics. He is honorary Citizen of Rio de Janeiro and Laureate of Gold Medal of the City of Nancy, France. In 2022 he was honored by the Congressman elect of Rio de Janeiro State, Alan Lopes, who will propose to the State Congress to adopt FLOGEN Sustainability Framework developed by Dr. Florian Kongoli in the state law for evaluating any proposed public or private project in the state. Also, in 2022 he was invited to give the Opening Sustainability Plenary Lecture at the United Nation Headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, on 11 February 2022 about FLOGEN Sustainability Framework at the International Year of Glass 2022.

BIO of Stephan Buchmann

Stephan Buchmann studied Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Basel where he also received his PhD in 1987. Thereafter he worked in Pharmaceutical R&D at Hoffmann-La Roche AG for several years, on transdermal drug delivery, preformulation and early formulation development. From 1997 to 2000 he was responsible for the Pharmaceutical Development at Spirig Pharma AG, Switzerland, developing liquid and semisolid topical products as well as oral solid dosage forms, including scaling-up under GMP. After that he joined Actelion Pharmaceuticals, as a Director, Senior Group Leader being responsible for setting up and leading the area of preformulation, i.e. compound characterisation with regard to physicochemical and solid state properties, as well as development of preclinical formulations which were used for pharmacodynamic, pharmacokinetic and toxicological trials in vivo in research and preclinical development. After the demerger of Actelion Pharmaceuticals and foundation of Idorsia Pharmaceuticals in 2017, he was responsible for development and manufacturing of preclinical formulations at Idorsia Pharmaceuticals.
In January 2020 he retired from his job and responsibilities in the pharmaceutical industry and became an “Amateur Historian” as he had always been interested in history. The main focus is on the local history of Basel, including its Pharmaceutical Industry like Roche and Novartis, as well as history of pharmaceutics in general.

BIO of Martin Bultmann

Dr. Martin Bultmann is a pharmacist by training and engineer by heart. He studied Pharmacy at the University of Bonn and finished his doctoral thesis "Knowledge based development of tablets out of granules" at the University of Heidelberg. After his thesis he decided to stay "a little longer" (yes, it turned out to be eight additional years) to continue beloved teaching and research on solid dosage forms - namely Roller Compaction, Knowledge based systems and Neural Nets, before he switched over to the Pharmaceutical Industry. Due to his various well-established contacts, he decided to take the role of section head for solid dosage form development at former Abbott in Ludwigshafen. In 2013 Abbott split into two companies and Dr. Bultmann stayed with the research and development focused part of the company, which assumed the name AbbVie. In the same year he became the head of the "Parenteral Pilot Plants" that manufactured all the supplies for the clinical trials under GMP. In 2017 Martin Bultmann got the opportunity to concentrate on the machine specific aspects of the fill finish process and became the head of the Ludwigshafen Process Engineering Sciences group for New Biological Entities (NBEs). Besides his passion for process improvements, lean manufacturing, simplification and development of novel, mainly first principle based in silico modelling approaches, he also became a highly recognized expert for troubleshooting of fill finish processes.

Despite all the industrial work, he never lost his dedication for teaching and as highly sought after speaker he was and still is giving guest seminars and workshops at various national and international Universities and meanwhile resumed lecturing at the University of Heidelberg on a continuous basis. In 2024 he founded the Institute for Pharmaceutical Process Development to offer Education on Pharmaceutical Process Development to the upcoming generation of students.
Martin is also the author of several Pharmaceutical Textbooks (Terminology, Basics of Drug Product Manufacturing, Maths and Statistics), is a research fellow of the AbbVie Community of Science's Volwiler Society, and member of several pharmaceutical societies.

BIO of Gregory Knipp

Dr Gregory T. Knipp is an Associate Professor of Industrial and Physical Pharmacy, College of Pharmacy, Purdue University, and serves as the Associate Director of the Dane O. Kildsig Center for Pharmaceutical Processing Research and the Director of the Purdue Translational Pharmacology CTSI Core Facility. He received a B.S. in Biochemistry from Rutgers in 1988. He then worked in the Physical Pharmacy Department at Bristol-Myers Squibb until 1991, prior to returning to graduate school. In 1997, he received a Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Chemistry from The University of Kansas, and then performed postdoctoral research in the Department of Molecular and Integrative Physiology at The University of Kansas Medical Center until 1999. After his postdoctoral studies, he became an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pharmaceutics in the Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy at Rutgers, the State University of NJ. In 2006, his laboratory moved to the Department of Industrial and Physical Pharmacy at Purdue University. His current research interests include the molecular and functional characterization of oligopeptide and fatty acid transporters, the effect of xenobiotics on placental fatty acid homeostasis and fetal development, and the effects of dosage form variation on clinically-relevant performance in the juvenile and adult porcine models.

BIO of Hans Leuenberger

Hans Leuenberger studied experimental physics resulting in a PhD in nuclear physics at the University of Basel. He worked for 12 years at Sandoz (today Novartis), and spent a sabbatical at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, writing a habilitation thesis in Pharmaceutics. In 1982 he became full professor of Pharmaceutical Technology at the University of Basel. He served as acting vice president (1993-2001) of the Swiss Academy of Engineering Sciences (SATW), and from1992-1996 as President of its Scientific Council. From 2001 to 2011 he served as President of the Swiss Society of Pharmaceutical Sciences (today Swiss Academy of Pharmaceutical Sciences).

BIO of Michael Makanga

Dr Michael Makanga, MD PhD FRCP: Global Health EDCTP3 Joint Undertaking Executive Director.
Dr Makanga is a clinician-scientist with about 30 years of professional experience of working on health and poverty-related infectious diseases in Africa. This includes 23 years of work experience on medical product development and clinical regulatory activities. He holds a Medical Degree from Makerere University, Uganda; a Master's Degree at the University of Liverpool, and a PhD Clinical Pharmacology at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, United Kingdom. He is also a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh, Scotland.
Dr Makanga is the Executive Director of Global Health EDCTP3 Joint Undertaking, and former Executive Director of the EDCTP-Association. Prior to joining EDCTP, Dr Makanga was first in clinical practice and academia, and later clinical research and research management. Moreover, he has served in various scientific and policy advisory boards for international product development, philanthropic organizations, the World Bank and pharmaceutical companies involved in developing medicinal products for poverty-related and neglected diseases.

Natalia Menshutina is a well-known specialist in the field of mathematical modeling, chemical and pharmaceutical technology. BIO of Peter Swaan

Peter W. Swaan, Ph.D., M.Pharm., began his tenure as the eighth dean of the University of Florida College of Pharmacy on Dec. 1, 2022. Swaan previously served as the associate dean for research and advanced graduate education as well as a professor and chair in the department of pharmaceutical sciences at the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy. While at Maryland, he was appointed a distinguished university professor in recognition of his extraordinary leadership and significant contributions to the pharmaceutical sciences.
Swaan is well connected to many of the nation’s largest and most prestigious pharmacy colleges. His academic and professional career includes stops at the University of Michigan; the University of California, San Francisco; the Ohio State University; and the University of Maryland. All four of these pharmacy colleges are featured in the top 15 of the U.S. News & World Report best pharmacy college rankings.
A highly cited researcher, Swaan has published more than 150 original research articles. He has been continuously funded by the National Institutes of Health since 1998 and has secured more than $25 million in grant funding during his career. His research focuses on all aspects of transporters in drug targeting and delivery, pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics, with his major contributions to this research area involving the application of transporters as targets for prodrugs. He has pioneered the use of computational techniques to determine the structural requirements of membrane transporters, which has paved the way for the discovery of novel substrates and inhibitors. He also holds several U.S. patents on these and related technologies.
Since 2015, Swaan has chaired the Board of Grants for the American Foundation for Pharmaceutical Education, or AFPE. He has also chaired multiple committees within the American Association for Pharmaceutical Scientists and served on multiple NIH study sections. More than two dozen master’s and Ph.D. students have trained under his guidance, and in July 2022, he was awarded the AFPE William M. Heller Mentor of the Year Award.

Dr. Hassan Tarabishi holds 3 degrees: a bachelor of science in pharmacy and pharmaceutical chemistry/Damascus University Syria, Diploma in Pharmaceutical Technology and Biopharmacy and Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Technology and Industrial Pharmacy/Basle University Switzerland.
From 1996 -1999 he worked by F. Hoffmann-La Roche Ltd., Switzerland with focus on sterile pharmaceuticals and its infra structure like clean rooms, water, air and gases. In 1998 he was chosen to represent Switzerland at the working party of the European Pharmacopoeia Commission for “Water for Injection” as member of the “Water Experts Group” of the Swiss Pharmacopoeia Commission. In these efforts he aimed to harmonize standards of pharma waters between different pharmacopeia.
Since 2000 in collaboration with international European companies he supported many projects in the emerging and fast developing pharmaceutical industry in the Middle East with focus on sterile pharmaceuticals and pharma water, In 2003 he established Shamra Pharma in Syria for manufacturing sterile dental anesthetic cartridges.
Since 2005 established Somicon ME in UAE besides co-establishing many other companies in UAE, KSA with activities in water desalination, treatment, recycle and reuse providing environment friendly solutions and chemicals to local water authorities in the region.
Since 2019 developed innovative water based wide spectrum and non-hazardous disinfectants.
Dr. Tarabishi, has more than 25 years’ experience in pharmaceutical formulations, GMP, validation, sterile pharmaceutical production and supportive infrastructure, pharmaceutical water. Cartilage Biotechnology and Bioengineering, water desalination, purification and waste water treatment and recycle. Membrane and filtration technology. Water treatment chemicals and disinfectant production.
Dr. Tarabishi is Member of the Swiss Association for Industrial Pharmacist "GSIA", Switzerland, Member of the working party of the European Pharmacopoeia Commission for “ Water for Injection” in Strasbourg, France, Member of the “Water Experts Group” of the Swiss Pharmacopoeia Commission, Member of German Society for Water Desalination.
