This major symposium is in honor of the distinguished work and lifetime achievements of Mr. Sergio Leite, BSc, MSc, a very well-known professional with deep rooted impact in Advanced Sustainable Iron & Steel Making.
Sergio Leite de Andrade is an established professional in the field of metallurgy and materials, with a career spanning more than 50 years at Usiminas, where he has held several executive and management positions. With a degree in Metallurgical Engineering from UFRJ and a Master's Degree from UFMG, Sergio has a solid academic background and practical experience that qualify him as an authority in the steel sector.
In addition to his work at Usiminas, Sergio Leite is also recognized for his contribution to the sector through his participation in organizations such as the Brazilian Steel Institute, ABM and FIEMG, where he has held prominent positions and made significant contributions to the development and strengthening of the steel industry in Brazil. His technical expertise and leadership are widely recognized, reflected in more than 60 published technical papers and his work as a speaker at national and international events.
As Chairman of the Board of Directors of Usiminas and “Mineração Usiminas” MUSA, Sergio Leite has clearly demonstrated his leadership and strategic vision, guiding the company through a process of revitalization and growth. His commitment to quality, innovation and sustainability are all hallmarks of his management, which has contributed significantly to the advancement of the country´s steel industry.

A round table discussion open to everyone interested will be organized during the symposium. This will allow high level representatives of various industries, technologies, and academic disciplines to discuss and debate freely, without reservations, all topics of this symposium and identify possible research and development pathways towards a future industry with increased sustainability.
