BIO of Elias Aifantis

Elias C. Aifantis graduated with a Diploma from National Technical University of Athens in 1973 and with a PhD from the University of Minnesota in 1975. He became an Assistant Professor at the University of Illinois at Urbana – Champaign in 1976, a visiting Professor at the University of Minnesota in 1980 and a full Professor at the Michigan Technological University in 1982. Currently he is an Emeritus Professor of Mechanics at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki/Greece and Michigan Technological University/USA, as well as Mercator fellow at Friedrich-Alexander University/Germany and a Distinguished Professor at Beijing University of Civil Engineering and Architecture/China. Formerly, he has also been a Distinguished Faculty Advisor at King Abdulaziz University/Saudi Arabia, Distinguished Visiting Expert at ITMO University/Russia and Southwest Jiaotong University/China, as well as MegaGrant Director at Togliatti State University/Russia. He has promoted highly interdisciplinary work in mechanics of materials by bringing into the field of solid mechanics ideas from diffusion theory, chemical reactions, and nonlinear physics. He has coined the terms dislocation patterning, material instabilities, gradient plasticity/elasticity, chemo/nanomechanics, and pioneered internal length gradient (ILG) theories in these fields. Currently, he is extending the ILG framework to revisit electromagnetism and Maxwell’s equations, as well as gravitation and Newton’s Law. He has published over 339 articles and received about 12,609 citations with 55 h-index (Scopus); 11,730 citations with 54 h-index (Web of Science); 17,860 citations with 66 h-index (Google Scholar). He is included in the ISI Web of knowledge list of the world’s most highly cited authors in engineering.

Biography - Dr Raj Das
Biography: Dr Raj Das, RMIT University
Dr Raj Das leads the ‘Advanced Mechanics and Materials’ group in the Aerospace Engineering and Aviation discipline of the School of Engineering of RMIT University in Australia. He is also an honorary academic in the University of Auckland, New Zealand. Dr Das is a principal investigator of the ‘Sir Lawrence Wackett Aerospace Research Centre’ of RMIT University, and also an adjunct academic of the University of Quebec, Canada. He serves as the Chair of the ‘National Committee on Applied Mechanics’ of Engineers Australia.
Dr Raj Das has more than 15 years of experience in design, analysis and optimisation of aerospace materials and structures with a focus on computational simulation, composite structures, failure analysis, and damage tolerance optimisation for civil and defence applications. Dr Das has a PhD from Monash University, Australia in Structural Optimisation and Failure Analysis. Dr Das has previously worked in the University of Auckland, the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO), and the University of Manchester.
Dr Das has published more than 200 papers in international journals and conferences in collaboration with several universities, institutes and industries. Dr Das has been granted several national and international awards and fellowships.

BIO of Patrizia Trovalusci

Prof. Patrizia Trovalusci is the Director of the Doctoral Program in Structural and Geotechnical Engineering (Sapienza). She has published over 200 articles in international journals, volumes, conference proceedings and more; she has organized 3 international Conferences, 20 International Minisymposia and 3 International Advanced Courses on Solid and Structural Mechanics: Continuous Generalized, constitutive aspects ("innovative", composite, and traditional materials, masonry); Masonry structures of historical and monumental interest, computational aspects. She is a member and / or Associate Editor of several editorial boards of international journals; of numerous international scientific societies and competition commissions, national and international, for teacher recruitment. She edited a number of Special Issues on prestigious international journals. She is the 'Principal Investigator' of numerous competitive national Research Projects and participant in international Research Projects. She has given 11 Plenary/KeyNotes lectures on Multiscale Methods for Materials with Microstructure. She teaches Solids and Structural Mechanics and Structural Performance of Historical Masonry in BCs and MSc courses and coordinates the Degree Atelier of "Reuse and Recycling Centers" (LAB-RECYCLING) in the Faculty of Architecture (Sapienza). In 2017 was awarded with the Computational Methods Award by the Committee of the International Conference on Computational Methods.

BIO of Victor Eremeyev

Prof. Eremeyev graduated from Rostov State University (Rostov on Don, Russia) in 1985 (diploma in Mechanics with summa cum laude grade) and defended his PhD in Rostov State University in 1990 (title: The stability of two-phase nonlinear thermo-elastic bodies). He was awarded Dr. hab. (Doctor of science of Physics & Mathematics) at Institute of Problems of Mechanical Engineering of Russian Academy of Science, Saint-Petersburg (title: Mechanics of two-phase bodies with microstructure under finite deformations).
Prof. Eremeyev has been appointed several professorship positions. He was an Assistant Professor, then an Associate Professor, then a Professor of Divisions of Computer Science, Elasticity and Mathematical Modeling of Department of Mechanics & Mathematics of Rostov State University/South Federal University. He also headed the laboratory of smart materials in Southern Scientific center of Russian Academy of Science. Then went on to hold Researcher positions at Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg and at Otto-von-Guericke-University Magdeburg, Germany. He was also a Professor at Rzeszów University of Technology, Rzeszów, Poland. Currently, he is an Associate Professor at Gdańsk University of Technology, Gdańsk, Poland.
Prof. Eremeyev has more than 190 publications indexed by Scopus, 14 written or edited books in English, Russian and Spanish. H-index: 32 (Web of Science), 33 (Scopus), 41 (Google Scholar).
Citations: >2500 (Web of Science); > 3000 citations (Scopus); >5000 (Google Scholar). His research interests focus on general theory of elastic and inelastic shells with applications, theory of continuum media with microstructures, generalized media, cosserat continua, surface stresses, nonlinear elasticity, phase transformations, and nano- and micromechanics.

BIO of Nicholas Fantuzzi

Nicholas Fantuzzi was born in Bologna, June 16, 1984.
Bachelor and Master degrees in Civil Engineering obtained at the University of Bologna in
2006 and 2009 both with grade 110/110 cum laude.
First position obtained in the competition for admission to the PhD in Structural Engineering
and Hydraulics at the University of Bologna in December 2009.
PhD in Structural Engineering and Hydraulics at the University of Bologna in 2013. PhD
Thesis title: “Generalized differential quadrature finite element method applied to advanced
structural mechanics”.
From 2010 to 2015 Adjunct Professor (Tutor Contract) for activities to support the teaching
of Second Level Master in “Design of Oil & Gas plants”, for ENI Corporate University, at
University of Bologna.
From Jun 2013 to Jun 2017 owner a research grant entitled: “About shell structures made
of anisotropic materials. Unified formulation and numerical analysis”, at the University of
Bologna.
From Jun 2017 to Oct 2018 Junior Assistant Professor at the University of Bologna.
From Nov 2018 Senior Assistant Professor (tenue-track) at the University of Bologna.
Since 2017 Teacher of the course “Modelling of Offshore Structures” and of the course
“Advanced Structural Mechanics” in the International Master degree in Offshore Engineering
(former Civil Engineering-Offshore Curriculum).
His research interests are: mechanics of solids and structures, fracture mechanics,
implementation of numerical methods for the design of structures, application of composite
materials in offshore engineering, design and strengthening of offshore components with
numerical simulations. Finite element method, differential quadrature method and mesh-free
element methods.
Winner of 3 international awards:
- The “ICCS17 Ian Marshall's Award for Best Student Paper” in 2013.
- The “Best Student Paper Award – MIMS16” in 2016.
- The “ICCM Young Investigator Award” in 2018.
