BIO of Michaela Barinova

Michaela Barinova (née Uhlirova) obtained her Bachelor and Master degrees at University of Southern Bohemia, in Biology and Parasitology, respectively.
In 2005 she joined Tomas Bata University in Zlin, Faculty of Applied Informatics, as a researcher in the team of Prof. Karel Kolomaznik. In 2013 she obtained her PhD in Technology of Macromolecular Substances at Tomas Bata University in Zlin, Faculty of Technology with a Thesis on “Optimization of raw hide preservation”. From Dec 2013 to Aug 2015 she took a postdoctoral position during which she spent 3 months at Slovak University of Technology, Faculty of Chemical and Food Technology in Bratislava.
Since 2015 she is a researcher at Tomas Bata University in Zlín, Faculty of Applied Informatics, Regional Research Center CEBIA-Tech.
Her research interests include diffusion in natural polymers, leather technology, processing of solid waste from the leather industry, chromium control in wastes from tanneries, fiber proteins (collagen, keratin), protein hydrolysates and natural product chemistry.
Awards and Recognitions
• 2012 Werner von Siemens Excellence Award, Czech Republic (top free finalists) in category „Most significant achievement in the field of development and innovation"–proposal of a technology for complex processing of tannery waste fats (research group: Kolomaznik K., Barinova M., Pecha J., Sanek and Plsek S.).
• 2014 - Certificate of Merit from the Dean of Faculty of Applied Informatics for significant contribution to the development of R&D activities of the Faculty
She has participated in both national and international research projects (funded e.g. by EUREKA, Foreign Talents Science, Technology and Innovation grants in Vietnam), and besides publications in peer-reviewed journals she is co-author of a European patent. She also repeatedly taught a 2-day intensive training course on collagen in Devro company, Jilemnice, Czech Republic.

BIO of Farman Ahmed

Bio-sketch Farman Ahmed (PhD)

Farman Ahmed obtained his M.Sc. degree in Chemistry in 1997 from the Bahawalpur, the southern part of the Punjab Province of Pakistan. In 1998, he joined the International Centre for Chemical & Biological Sciences, HEJ Research Institute of Chemistry, University of Karachi, Pakistan for Ph. D. program. He conducted research in the Medicinal Chemistry of Marine plants. After the doctoral thesis in 2003, he joined the Pakistan Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (PCSIR) and worked in medicinal chemistry. In 2004, he transferred to a different division of PSCIR i.e. the Leather Research Center in Karachi where he served as the Quality Manager & Senior Scientist.

Leather is among the leading exports of Pakistan and its quality control testing is vital to consumer acceptance of leather products. In LRC, Dr. Ahmed studied the optimization of the extraction efficiencies of harmful substances (e.g. azo dyes, formaldehyde, banned aromatic amines, chlorophenols and fungicides). Also the development of environmental friendly leather chemical development was being his important task at LRC.

In 2009, Ahmed was awarded the Fulbright Visiting Scholar Fellowship to conduct research in USA to explore environmental impact of the textile and leather industries. Eco-friendly chemical advances was of his major research interests.
Dr. Ahmed visited Middle Tennessee State University & University of California, Davis during his stay in United States.

In 2019, Ahmed has been moved to look after the Food Safety Section of PCSIR Karachi. There, his role is to develop Detoxification Technologies to Mitigate Mycotoxins in Food Commodities. Ahmed is keen to work with Health & Environment friendly products improvement.

BIO of Carmen Gaidau

Dr. Carmen Gaidau is a Senior Researcher and Head of Leather Research Department (https://erris.gov.ro/Leather-Research-Department) of Leather and Footwear Research Institute, a Divison of Research and Development National Institute for Textiles and Leather from Bucharest, Romania. She has a Ph.D. title in Chemistry received from „Gheorghe Asachi” Technical University of Iasi, Faculty of Technology and Chemistry of Textiles. The topic of her thesis refers to the reduction of chromium basic salts in leather processing by synthesis and application of new metal heterocomplexes with low ecological impact on effluents- a topic of interest in the 90’s. Other research topics refer to wet-white leathers, organic tanning, the best available technologies for the leather industry, biodegradable leathers, smart leather surfaces based on nanoparticle coatings. Over the last twenty years Dr. Gaidau’s research focused on leather byproducts reclaiming and new added value materials processing for agriculture (keratin and collagen-based biostimulators and fertilizers), medical applications (protein nanofibers or bioactive keratin powders for wound healing biomaterials), circular technologies (leather and wool byproducts recovery and recirculation), unconventional methods for leather treatment (gamma radiation, cold plasma). Her international research partnerships include Tomas Bata University of Zlin (Prof. Karel Kolomaznik, dr. Jiri Pecha) from the Czech Republic, Catalonia and Lleida Universities from Spain, Sichuan University Chengdu and Shaanxi University of Science and Technology Xi’an from China, Ege University from Turkey, Leather Institute from Lodz Poland, University of Chemical Technology and Metallurgy from Sofia Bulgaria, Kaunas University from Lithuania, etc. Dr. Gaidau published more than 70 indexed papers, 9 books, 140 communications, and she has 12 awarded patents. She was a member of the doctoral examination committees of Anna University Chennai India, Catalonia University Spain and Politehnica University of Bucharest Romania. Dr. Gaidau is the representative for Romania of IULTCS as an associate member, President of Technical Committee CT105 for Standardisation (Romanian Standardisation Association, ASRO). In 2012 she was awarded a Guest Professorship from Sichuan University, she was a Member of the Editorial Board of Leather Science and Engineering magazine from R.P.China (2007-2021), she received the award for the most cited paper from Romanian Chemistry Society in 2013 and gold medals at Geneva Inventions Fair in 2018 and Inventica Fair in Iasi 2021.

BIO of Xueyi Guo

Dr.Guo Xueyi is professor of School of metallurgy & Environment, Central South University (abbreviated as CSU),China, he is director of Research Institute of Resource recycling and vice president of CSU.
From 1985-1995, he finished his study in School of Metallurgical Science & Engineering, Central South University of Technology (In year of 2000, renamed to Central South University by united with other two uinversity) and awarded Bachelor Degree in 1989, Master Degree in 1992 and Ph.D in 1995. During 1996-1997, he worked as post-doctor in National Key Lab of Powder Metallurgy, China. During 1998-1999, he employed as lecturer, then associate professor in School of Metallurgical Science & Engineering, CSU. During 1999-2000, he worded as visiting scholar in Saga University, Japan. 2000-2002, he was engaged as visiting scholar in The University of Tokyo, Japan. From 2003, he was employed as professor in School of metallurgy & Environment, CSU. From 2010，he served as director of Research Institute of Resource recycling, and from 2016, he was appointed as vice president of CSU.
Dr.Guo Xueyi main research interests including: Clean Metallurgy of Nonferrous Metals, Resource recycling, Advanced Material Preparation.
He was authorized more than 100 patents for invention, published over 200 papers, and is the most high cited researcher in the field of metallurgical engineering worldwide. He has made great contribution to the innovation on resource recycling of e-waste urban mines, precious metals, spent lithium-ions power battery and established industrial demonstration in large scale in China. With his efforts together with the faculty partners, the metallurgical engineering and resource recycling of nonferrous metals in CSU are in the leading way of the world at present.

BIO of Karel Kolomaznik

Professor Karel Kolomazník was born in Kromeriz, Czech Republic. He took up an academic position in Zlín in 1970 at the Faculty of Technology of Brno University of Technology (which was later changed to Faculty of Technology of Tomas Bata University in Zlín). Since 2006 he has been working at the newly established Faculty of Applied Informatics. His research group deals with optimization of technological processes particularly in the field of processing waste generated by tanning, leather and food processing industries into valuable products.
He has led and participated in many successful projects funded e.g. by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the Czech Republic, Ministry of Industry and Trade or the Ministry of Agriculture, the Czech Science Foundation, the US-Asia Environmental Partnership program, etc. In addition to that, he has put most of his results into industrial practice in cooperation with commercial partners from both the Czech Republic and abroad. He has had a long-term cooperation with the Eastern Regional Research Center of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Wyndmoor, PA where he successfully applied the ammonia-free deliming of white hide. In the NIKE Inc. (Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam) he implemented a patented technology for the processing of manipulation waste from leather industry including the application of the products. He has been also active in industrial applications within the Czech Republic, e.g. implementation of a patented technology of a protein hydrolyzate production from animal-based organic waste in the Kortan, s.r.o. in Hrádek nad Nisou, Czech Republic.
Prof. Kolomazník was awarded in 1998 the “Rolex Award for Enterprise”, for the technology of processing and recycling of potentially hazardous chrome-tanned waste produced by the leather industry. In 2009 he received the ALSOP Award of the American Leather Chemists Association for his long-term contribution to the association and the leather industry.
In 2014 he received the most prestigious Czech scientific recognition Česká hlava in 2014 within the category Award for Invention – natural sciences. In October 2018, Prof. Kolomazník was decorated the Medal of Merit by the President of the Czech Republic.

BIO of Hasan Ozgunay

Prof.Dr. Hasan Ozgunay studied Leather Technology at the University of Ege (Turkiye) 1991-1995. After working in Leather Industry for one year, he joined the staff of Leather Engineering Department as research assistant in 1996. He obtained his M.Sc. in the same department in 2000. He studied on vegetable tanning materials and obtained his Ph.D. in Leather Engineering in 2005. He is currently working as researcher / lecturer in Leather Engineering Department. His research activities and fields of interests are; tanning materials, leather processing technologies and cleaner leather processing methodologies.

BIO of Keyong Tang

Dr. Keyong Tang obtained his PH.D in 1998 from Sichuan University, China, and got the full professor position in 2002. He worked as a visiting scholar in Texas Tech. University (USA) in 2008-2009, and had the experience of senior visiting scholars in University of British Columbia (Canada, 2014), University of Groningen (Netherlands, 2016), and University of Western Ontario (Canada, 2018).
Research Interests: As the Director of the International Joint Laboratory of Biomass Resources and Materials (IJLBRM) of Henan Province, Dr. Keyong Tang’s research fields include: (1) Structure and Properties of Leather and Collagen; (2) Extraction and Application of Collagen for Biomedical Materials; (3) Intelligent Materials Based on Natural Polymers; (4) Cleaner Leather Making Technologies; (5) Recycling of Tannery Solid Waste and Chrome Tanned Liquors; and (6) Key Technologies for the Protection of Organic Material Relics.

BIO of Nguyen Nhu Thanh

Mr Nguyen Nhu Thanh was born in 1970 in Hanoi city, Vietnam. He graduated from Hanoi University of Science and Technology in 1992 with a degree in materials technology engineering. He then went on to study Jurisprudence at Ulianov University in Russia where he obtained his first master's degree in 1997. A second master's degree was granted in 2019 about Management of Science and Technology at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Ha Noi City. In 1998, he joined Chrisal NV Group (Belgium) in Moscow - Russia as a biotechnology expert. After more than 10 years studying and working in Russia, in 2010 he returned to Vietnam and held the position of director of Chrisal Vietnam Co., Ltd., headquartered in Long Bien, Hanoi, which is a branch of Chrisal NV Group in Asia region. In 2011, he joined the Leather and Shoes Research Institute as a researcher and is currently the director of Centre for Application Research and New Technology Transfer, which is a center of the Institute's organizational system. During his work at the Leather and Shoes Research Institute, he participated in and chaired many state-level research projects and the Ministry of Industry and Trade. The research direction mainly focuses on technological processes in the field of the environment such as:
• Leather solid waste treatment technology.
• Methods and systems for treating domestic wastewater and wastewater from the tanning industry, dyeing, and textile, aquatic product processing wastewater ...
• Probiotics for soil improvement.
Many research results have been patented in Vietnam and implemented in industrial practice, such as MBG-OAAO methods and systems for treating wastewater (Microbubble - Oxic - Anoxic - Aerobic - Oxic )...

BIO of Svetlana Yefremova

I graduated Chemical Department of the Kazakh State University after S.M. Kirov (1991).
I joined National Center on Complex Processing of Mineral Raw Materials of the Republic of Kazakhstan RSE in 2004 as a Head of the laboratory of silica carbon composites having worked for several years as a Head of chemical and analytical sector of the Central Laboratory for the NODFOS JSC (1992-1997) and as a Post-graduate student, a Senior Lecturer, and an Associate Professor at the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University (1997-2004) after academic degree of Candidate of Chemical Sciences was conferred (1999). I was promoted to a Head scientific secretary in 2009, got academic degree of Doctor of Technical Sciences in 2010 and academic rank of Professor in 2012.

My current research covers chemistry and technology of new materials, composite materials production and use, sorption processes, minerals processing.

I have next awards:
