Producing concentrates from graphite ores with the highest possible grade of graphite flakes is an important goal to increase the efficiency of the use graphite ores in the framework of sustainability. Participating in Balama Graphite Project from Syrah Resources Company in Mozambique, Fundação Gorceix, through its Mining and Metallurgy Department carried out initial characterisation of graphite ores, carried out bench test works in laboratory and pilot plants using a large sample of graphite ore provided by the company. As a result, it was possible to obtain concentrates with a high grade of graphite flakes, above 93%, compatible with market demand for use in electric car batteries. The subsequent work included the definition of the process flowsheet adopted for the characteristics of the current industrial exploitation in Mozambique. This paper will present this work and the results achieved.
