Abstract:

The recovery of neodymium is a very prospective process for the future, due to the high demand for Nd-Fe-B permanent magnets and the low availability of it on the market. Moreover, the electrolytic production of neodymium is more suitable than the thermic reduction of neodymium oxide. As a result, a great deal of research has been imposed to establish and improve this process. The objective of this work is to evaluate the behavior of neodymium in molten salts at different temperature in molten salt. The electrochemical behavior of NdCl3 was studied in molten LiCl-KCl eutectic salts with classical transient electrochemical techniques.
