Short Bio:Wolfgang A. Wall is full Professor and founding director of the Institute for Computational Mechanics at the Technical University of Munich. Born near Salzburg (Austria), he studied Civil Engineering in Innsbruck and received his PhD from the University of Stuttgart. Among others he acted as founding director of the Munich School of Engineering and is co-founder of the companies AdCo EngineeringGW and Ebenbuild. He received several esteemed awards and serves on a large number of prestigious boards. He currently also serves as Rector of CISM in Udine (Italy) and is member of the Austrian Academy of Sciences as well as of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities. His research interests can be described as “application motivated fundamental research” in a broad range of areas in computational mechanics, with applications spanning all fields of engineering and the applied sciences. With a strong basis in different single field problems (like solid and fluid dynamics), a focus lies on multifield, multiscale and bioengineering problems. Activities cover the full spectrum from advanced modelling and development of novel computational methods to sophisticated software development and application-oriented simulations on HPC; also including optimization, inverse analysis, uncertainty quantification, machine learning as well as some experimental work. |
