David Smeulders

Short Bio:

David Smeulders holds an MSc in Aerospace Engineering from Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands and a PhD in Applied Physics from Eindhoven University of Technology, Netherlands. Between 1992 and 2010 he was professor at the Applied Earth Science and Civil Engineering departments in Delft, where he was also scientific director of the Geotechnology Laboratory (2007-2010). In 2010 he was appointed full professor at the Mechanical Engineering Department at Eindhoven University of Technology, and since 2012 he chairs the Energy Technology group. In 1998 he was visting professor at the Laboratoire d’Acoustique de l’Université du Maine in Le Mans (France), in 2000 visiting professor at the Ben-Gurion University (Israel), and from 2007-2010 guest lecturer at ETH Zurich (Switzerland). He is (co)-author of more than 150 scientific publications, scientific director of the Eindhoven Strategic Area Energy, member of the Dutch national ‘topsector’ board TKI Gas, member of the Dutch Advisory and Evaluation Team for the Dutch national ‘topsector’ TKI Urban Energy and member of the Scientific Board of the Netherlands Energy Research Alliance (NERA). The focus of the Energy Technology Group at Eindhoven University is on heat storage, porous media, and flow-induced vibrations. Currently some 30 PhD students are working on these topics.
