Short Bio:Giancarlo Jug is a professor of condensed matter physics at the department of science and high-technology (DiSAT) of the University of Insubria, in Como (Italy). His research interests focus on the construction of a theory of the vitreous state (bulk glasses and semiconductor amorphous films) that can describe the amorphous solid state from the lowest temperatures (1 mK) to the glass transformation point, Tg (so, around 1 kK). The theory is being constructed step-by-step by assuring that appropriate sets of experiments can satisfactorily be explained. He graduated in physics from the University of Pavia (Italy) in 1977 and returned to Italy in 1992 after a long path that led him to Grenoble (F), Canterbury (UK, where he received his Ph.D. in theoretical physics), Oxford (UK), Pittsburgh (USA), Norwich (UK) and Trieste in Italy. He was also visiting scientist in Stuttgart and Dresden (Max-Planck Institutes), Augsburg U. (Germany), Dubna (Russia), INPE Sao José dos Campos (Brasil) and McGill U. (Canada). He has always been interested in the theoretical (and phenomenological) physics of disordered solids and is author of some 100 publications in peer-reviewed journals and in scientific books. |
