Short Bio:Carlo Burkhardt studied Metallurgy & Materials and completed his PhD, funded by a Marie Skłodowska-Curie fellowship, at the University in Birmingham (UK) in 1996, where he studied the hydrogenation, disproportionation, desorption and recombination (HDDR process) of NdFeB-type materials for the production of hard magnets.\\r\\nAfter working for 16 years at Witzenmann GmbH, a German automotive supplier with 4.000 employees, where his latest position was R&D director, in 2011 he became Managing Director of OBE, a company making precision parts for the optical, automotive, aerospace, medical and luxury industry with 500 employees. \\r\\nSince April 2017 he is professor for manufacturing technology and head of the Institute for precious and technology metals (STI) at Pforzheim University (Germany), but still works part-time for OBE as head of technology and innovation.\\r\\nHe is the author of several refereed papers, two books and holds more than ten patents.\\r\\nCarlo is coordinator of the H2020 project SUSMAGPRO (sustainable magnets production) with 20 partners and a funding of ~13 Mio. EUR. He is partner in several other EU projects and the ERA-MIN2 project \\\"MaXycle\\\", dealing with labelling and grading of permanent magnets for an improved circular economy.\\r\\nCarlo is 53 years old, married and father of three children. |
