    SYMPOSIUM and ROUND TABLE TOPICS

    The "International Symposium on sustainable base-metal bio-extraction" will be a forum for presentation and discussion of scientific and technological advances in bio-hydrometallurgy. It will be an opportunity for researchers, students and professionals, who work in extractive metallurgy, to be up-to-date about the various forms of biotechnology applications, as well as to find new forms of collaboration and partnerships.
    The bio-hydrometallurgy is an area that has been reaching more space than ever in the metallurgical sector. The use of microorganisms for extracting metals has been shown to be an attractive alternative before the scarcity of reserves that have high metal contents. From biotechnological routes it is possible to include, in a production line, technologies that enable the extraction of metals under more competitive costs when compared to conventional processing that require prior ore beneficiation.
    Considering the abovementioned, it is suggested below some themes of coverage in the area of bio-hydrometallurgy for professionals who are dealing with such theme and will contribute a great deal with their technical papers.
    • Fundamental aspects of bio-hydrometallurgy;
    • Industrial bio-hydrometallurgy (studies, practical aspects and operation);
    • Bio-extraction of nutrients out of agro-minerals;
    • Microbial ecology and bio-prospecting in natural environments and mining;
    • Molecular Genetics and biochemistry of microorganisms used in biohydrometallurgical processes;
    • Biohydrometallurgy as a strategy for remediating contaminated sites;
    • Bio-extraction of phosphorus out of iron ores;
    • Bio-assisted Comminution of primary and secondary ores;
    • Bio-desulphurization of mineral coal;
    • Bio-extraction of metals from electro-electronic scraps.
