Short Bio:

Prof. Spomenka Kobe (http://magnetit.ijs.si) is Scientific Advisor, Head of the Department for Nanostructured materials and a Member of the Scientific Council at the Jozef Stefan Institute. She is full professor at the International Postgraduate School and the Leader of the National Research Programme "Nanostructured Materials". She is the Slovene director of LIA and a coordinator of European project "Replacement and Original Magnet Engineering Option" - ROMEO (FP7-NMP) and has been principal investigator of many national and international projects. Prof. Kobe is a recipient of two State Awards for Scientific Research and two Innovation Awards from industry for the successful transfer of technology. She is also the European Expert and Evaluator. Her scientific work is documented in more than 150 refereed publications, 7 chapters in a book and invited talks at international conferences. Her applied research achievements include 6 patents (3 EP), 3 innovations and 5 successful transfers of technology to the industrial production. Prof. Kobe is the President of the Academic Society for Science and Engineering (SATENA). Job related skills: processing of intermetallic alloys including rare-earth transition-metal, permanent magnets, hydrogen-storage materials, quasicrystals, magnetocaloric materials, complex metallic alloys, influence of magnetic field in crystallization, application of RETM permanent magnets in ecology, effect on processing on microstructure and physical properties. Applied research has included the development and large-scale production of a large variety of magnetic materials, and in strong collaboration with industry; it has involved product development, quality control and troubleshooting at the factory-floor level.
