International Symposium on Sustainability of World Ecosystems in Anthropocene Era

THE WORLD'S OLDEST WORKING SCIENTIST

This major symposium is in honor of the distinguished work and lifetime achievements of Prof. David William Goodall.

Imagine being 102 years old and working every day in your office at the university, supervising PhD students, reviewing journal papers and editing a well-known professional peer-review journal.

Does it seem real? Absolutely.

This is the case of Prof. David Goodall who is actually the oldest working scientist in the world. At an age of 102 he is an honorary research associate at Edith Cowan University's Centre for Ecosystem Management in Perth, Australia. He maintains a regular working schedule showing every day in his university office which he recently managed to keep after a hard fought battle against the university management that was worried about his health. Besides keeping a regular active professional schedule he edits the Ecosystems of the World Series for Elsevier since 1974, reviews journal papers and supervise PhD students in botany.

For more than 80 decades of continuous academic career and for 75 years after he completed the PhD, Prof. Goodall has brought significant contributions to understanding of plant biosystems. He has worked in Britain, the United States and Australia. He received in 1990 an honorary doctorate from University of Trieste in Italy and in 2016 the Order of Australia - the highest order in the country. Besides his scientific work, he passes his free time with Shakespeare poetry and by undertaking adventurous travelling in rural areas. He recently visited Abrolhos Islands, a chain of uninhabited coral and wildlife-rich islands 60km off Australia's west coast.

In science he has given his distinguished contribution in the following fields:
  • Major sustainable ecosystem
  • Arctic tundra and the role of methane in climate change
  • Coniferous forest
  • Temperate grasslands
  • Deciduous forest
  • Savannah
  • Tropical rain-forest
  • Coastal ecosystems
  • Coral reefs
  • The open ocean
Contributed articles will be doubled peer-reviewed and will be published in Conference Official Proceedings having an ISBN and an ISSN number and available through many indexes such as Scopus, EI index, Google Scholar, CiteSeerX etc. Selected contributed articles will also be published in reputable Journals.

ROUND TABLE DISCUSSIONS

A round table discussion open to everyone interested will be organized at a specific date and time during the symposium with high level representatives of various industries, technologies and academia to discuss and debate freely without reservations all topics of this symposium and identify positive and efficient pathways towards sustainability in the industrial practice, technologies and research. Click here for a descrition of the topics of symposium and the round table.

You are cordially invited to actively participate in this symposium by submitting and presenting a paper or by simply attending the round table. We look forward to meeting you at the all-inclusive Fiesta Americana Condesa 5-Star Resort in Cancun, Mexico, on 22-26 October 2017.
