DAVIS JOSEPH BREAKS NEW RECORD WITH SECOND GROUNDBREAKING NEURODEGENERATION STUDY436
FLOGEN Star Outreach proudly celebrates a second milestone by Davis Joseph, recipient
of the 2024 Semenza International Cell Engineering in Medicine Award. His latest single-
author article, "The Unified Theory of Neurodegeneration Pathogenesis Based on Axon
Deamidation," has achieved over 2,500 downloads in just one month, setting a new
benchmark in scientific publishing.
This pioneering paper presents a unifying theory that identifies a common master switch
underlying Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and other brain-related diseases. The discovery holds
promise for transformative, cross-cutting therapeutic approaches in neurodegenerative
disease treatment.
This is Joseph’s second major breakthrough. His previous single-author publication in the
Q1-ranked International Journal of Molecular Sciences was accessed over 9,000
times in just six months, already a rare achievement in the scientific community.
For this earlier work, Davis Joseph was honored at SIPS 2024 with the Semenza
International Cell Engineering in Medicine Award, presented personally by Prof. Gregg
Semenza, Nobel Laureate in Physiology or Medicine (2019).
Scientific Significance and Global Context
Joseph’s publications represent a rare and impactful form of scientific authorship:
Both articles are single-author contributions—a format that made up only 0.43% of all
research papers in 2020 ( source , Fig. 5B & Table 3).
The author conducted all theory development, experimentation, and methodology
independently.
In comparison, many modern papers involve massive collaborations—one recent paper
lists 5,154 co-authors.
Contextual Comparison:
The average article in a Q1 journal receives just 631 views in the first three months
( source ).
A study of 320 published articles in Archives of Plastic Surgery found that most papers
received fewer than 50 accesses ( source ).
In stark contrast, Joseph’s latest article reached 2,500+ downloads in only 30 days,
making it a record-setting accomplishment—especially for a single-author work.
For this achievement, Davis Joseph has been invited to deliver a plenary lecture at
SIPS 2025, which will be held in Cebu, Philippines, from 17–20 November 2025.

DAVIS JOSEPH’S BREAKTHROUGH ARTICLE REACHES 9,500 DOWNLOADS IN UNDER 7 MONTHS — A RECORD438
In an extraordinary display of scientific interest and public engagement, the single-author article by Davis Joseph has surpassed 9,500 downloads in less than seven months, setting a new record in academic publishing.
Published in the International Journal of Molecular Sciences (Q1, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology), the article presents a breakthrough discovery related to the treatment of Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases — entirely led, researched, and validated by Joseph himself.
Unmatched Achievement in Scientific Publishing
-The article's download count vastly outpaces typical Q1 journal performance, where papers average 631 views in the first 3 months (study).
-Among 320 papers published in Archives of Plastic Surgery over two years, only 1 surpassed 199 views (source).
-Single-author papers make up just 0.43% of all articles published in 2020 (data) — a rare feat in an era of hyper-collaborative science.
Scientific Excellence and Global Recognition
-A single-author article with groundbreaking implications in medicine.
-Developed and experimentally validated entirely by Joseph, showcasing rare scientific independence and innovation.
-For this pioneering work, Joseph received the Semenza International Cell Engineering in Medicine Award at FLOGEN SIPS 2024, presented by Prof. Gregg Semenza, 2019 Nobel Laureate in Medicine.

DAVIS JOSEPH UNCOVERS A NEW MECHANISM BEHIND NEURODEGENERATION442
FLOGEN Star Outreach proudly highlights the latest breakthrough by Davis Joseph, Director of Biochemistry at FLOGEN Technologies Inc., Canada, whose new single-author study presents critical insights into the onset of neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson's.
Published in the International Journal of Molecular Sciences, this open-access paper uncovers why 4E-BP2 protein deamidation occurs exclusively in axons — a question that puzzled scientists for years. 4E-BP2 is a vital brain protein, and its absence is linked to memory impairment and the progression of devastating brain disorders.
Joseph discovered that the axon's "proteasome-poor" environment — lacking in the machinery needed to clear damaged proteins — plays a fundamental role in this protein’s transformation. This finding sheds new light on how oxidative stress triggers damaging protein changes in the nervous system, paving the way for new therapeutic approaches.
"This experimentally validated discovery… is of seminal importance because it explains what causes a post-translational modification in the brain of all mammalian species, which has been conserved for over 90 million years."
- Davis Joseph
The study offers another critical piece in the puzzle of neurodegenerative disease, bringing us closer to a cure for conditions affecting millions worldwide.
Following the success of his previous record-breaking article — which surpassed 10,000 downloads in 7 months — this research further establishes Joseph as a trailblazer in neuroscience and molecular medicine.
Joseph will present his findings in a plenary lecture at SIPS 2025, held from November 17–20 at the Dusit Thani Mactan Resort, Cebu, Philippines.
