Curriculum Vitae:
Professor Luis Marcelo Tavares is the head of the Laboratorio de Tecnologia Mineral (LTM) at the Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro. With a Ph.D. in metallurgical engineering from the University of Utah (1997), his current research is mainly on comminution and separation processes, with key interest on measurement of material breakage properties, advanced modeling and simulation of industrial size reduction and physical separation processes.
He supervised 6 PhD theses, 20 MSc students in various themes in mineral and materials science. Prof. Tavares is currently Chairman of the International Comminution Research Association (ICRA) and has a wide collaborative network, being the research leader of UFRJ in the AMIRA P9 project, also representing the university in the Global Comminution Collaborative (GCC), as part of the Anglo American Centre for Sustainable Comminution. Prof. Tavares has more than 150 publications, including 56 published in international peer-reviewed journals and several book chapters. He has successfully concluded more than 70 research and development as well as engineering and consulting projects for companies that include Vale, Anglo American, Samarco, Votorantim, Petrobras and ME Elecmetal.
