Curriculum Vitae:
Dr. Justin Salminen is currently Senior Scientist at VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland. He obtained his Doctoral degree on Physical Chemistry and Chemical Thermodynamics from Helsinki University of Technology, Finland (now Aalto University) where he has also given graduate courses on renewable energy technologies, physical chemistry, chemical thermodynamics, and has been director of a Master's program.
He has been a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) and University of California Berkeley (UCB), supervised by Professors John M. Prausnitz and John Newman.
He has wide experience on developing environmentally friendlier processes in different fields of industries. Previous industrial positions include Outotec and a Managerial position in a company manufacturing lithium ion batteries. He is a holder of several patents and author or co-author for over 100 publications and 150 industrial reports. That includes work on books and chapters related to future energy technologies, materials for a sustainable future, sustainable chemical processes and environmental technologies.
Resent responsibilities include management of hydrometallurgy research, WP leader in EU project, plant startup, and coordination of EIP RM Commitment consortium MetGROW (Metal Recovery from Low Grade Sources and Wastes).
Dr. Justin Salminen is also advisory member in EUs raw materials committees, EIP RM (European Innovation Platform on Raw Materials, ERECON (European Rare Earth Competence Network), and participated on national work program Making Finland a Leader in Sustainable Extractive Industry - Action Plan.
