The challenge of a Green Chemistry today in the organic world is to synthesize organic materials in high yields, efficiently, selectively, economically and safely. This is achieved by using theoretically all usable pure elements (around 70) avoiding radioactive, inert and inherently toxic elements and their binary combinations (around 5000). Metals play here an important role because of their desirable reactivities while transition metals play a magical role as catalysts because of their simultaneous availability of empty and filled non-bonding orbitals among other properties. As an example of this magical role it is described the influence of Zr as a catalyst for the asymmetric carboalumination of alkene in the highly selective synthesis of various fine organic components.
